Signal Systemization

A well-timed, coordinated system permits continuous movement along a road with minimum stops and delays, which reduces fuel consumption and improves air quality.

SHA reviews timing on coordinated signal systems every three years or as needed. We use highly sophisticated computer models to test various timing strategies and identify timing plans which serve traffic with the greatest possible safety and efficiency. Timing plans are developed to serve rush hours, midday and evening traffic, seasonal traffic, special events and incidents. By matching traffic signal cycles to traffic patterns, traffic flow becomes more efficient, safety is increased and polluting emissions are reduced
