The following information and downloads are provided as supplemental information to aid contractors and consultants in using and conforming to the Maryland State Highway Administration - Office of Materials Technology Ride Specification (Special Provisions Section 535 - Pavement Surface Profile). In the event of any conflict between the information provided below and the contract documents on a project, the information in the contract documents shall govern and the information below shall be disregarded.

Pay Limits and Pay Adjustment Calculations

The IRI pay targets will be established in accordance with the Ride Specification Limits form (ZIP, 360 KB) and the pay adjustments will be calculated as per Special Provisions Section 535 - Pavement Surface Profile and MSMT 736. (PDF, 35 KB)

Standardization Test Site Locations

The following test sites, each 0.2 miles in length, are signed for use as Standardization Test Sites:

Allegany County

MD 144 (Old National Pike) east of Flintstone Elementary School. Off of IS-68 at exit #56 to MD 144 - National Pike : Flintstone. Test section signs are posted in the eastbound direction.

Talbot County

MD 662 (Centreville Road) between Airport Road and Forest Street. Off of US 50 near the Easton Airport. Test section signs are posted in the northbound direction.

Submitting Quality Control Data to OMT

The following guidelines should be followed when submitting Quality Control data as required under Special Provisions Section 535 - Pavement Surface Profile and MSMT 563 (PDF, 75 KB)

Send electronic data files for IRI data to Please include the SHA contract number in the subject line of the e-mail message. Any other electronic data file formats must include all of the reporting information required under MSMT 563 (PDF, 75 KB) in a DOS Text or ASCII file type.
