*TRAFFIC ALERT*

STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION TEMPORARILY CLOSES US 29 FOR 15-MINUTE INTERVALS OVERNIGHT FOR INTERCOUNTY CONNECTOR BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION
Closures Begin Week of October 26

(October 20, 2009) -- Beginning early Monday morning, Oct. 26, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s (MDOT)
State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily stop traffic and close all lanes of US 29 between Fairland Road
and Briggs Chaney Road.  Temporary 15-minute closures are permitted Monday through Friday mornings between midnight and 5 a.m.

The overnight closures, which will occur periodically through spring, allow crews to safely set structural steel
for the new Intercounty Connector (ICC) Bridge over US 29.   As alternate routes, motorists should consider
Old Columbia Pike, which runs parallel to US 29 to the west or I-95, which runs parallel to US 29 to the east.

To ensure worker and motorist safety, construction crews may close one lane of US 29 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and
two lanes between 7 p.m. and midnight.  SHA will post traffic information on portable message signs on US 29 several
days in advance of any lane closures.  This work is part of the “Contract C” section of the ICC, from just west of
US 29 to east of I-95.

SHA reminds motorists to “Think Orange” as they drive through all work zones, reduce speeds and be attentive.
For more information about the project, please call the ICC Community Outreach staff at 1-866-462-0020,
