11/1/2011SHA Detours Late Night Traffic on I-695 South at Exit 13 (Frederick Rd.) Nov. 2 and 3
There will be an overnight detour/diversion of I-695 South/Outer Loop at Exit 13, the Frederick Road Interchange on Wednesday night, November 2  and Thursday night, November 3.

This detour is necessary for crews to safely remove steel beams from the Frederick Road Bridge over I-695 as part of SHA's $13.7 million bridge replacement project.

Between midnight and 4 a.m., all I-695 South traffic will be diverted off I-695 at Exit 13, through the Frederick Road interchange and back on to I-695 South.   Please plan for extra travel time on I-695 South on both nights.  In case of inclement weather, the steel beam removal will take place on the next possible weeknight (Sunday - Thursday)

Lane Closure and Detour Schedule:

Single lane closure: 8 p.m.

Double lane closure: 10 p.m.

Detour: 12 midnight - 4 a.m. the next morning:  Outer loop is closed and all the traffic on the outer loop gets funneled over to the ramp onto Frederick Road, across Frederick Road to the exit ramp and back onto the I-695 outer loop.

The traffic signal on MD 144 will be turned off at 12 midnight and flagpersons will control the intersection to safely allow the extra I-695 traffic through that part of the interchange.
Drivers on I-695 outer loop and Frederick Road should plan for extra travel time overnight and look ahead for the lane closures, detour signs and flagpersons in the work zone.

After the two overnight closures take place, crews may continue the steel beam removal work; however, no I-695 detour will be needed.  Temporary lane closures will take place during off-peak hours.

Construction work at the interchange will continue through fall 2013
