7/26/2010MD 63 Over CSX Railroad Deck Replacement
Next spring, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin a project to replace the bridge deck on the MD 63 (Greencastle Road) bridge over CSX railroad north of Williamsport in Washington County.  SHA anticipates completing the project in fall 2011, weather permitting.

The bridge, built in 1959, is structurally sound; however the concrete deck (the riding surface on the bridge) is in need of replacement.  The new deck will extend the service life of the bridge by an additional 30 to 50 years.

SHA held a community meeting on July 8, 2010 to discuss the project and explain the need for a temporary closure of MD 63.  SHA is proposing to detour traffic on MD 63during the project facilitate construction and to minimize the length of the project.  The detour plan, which is still being developed in coordination with Washington County, police, and fire and rescue services will detour motorists to adjacent roadways during construction.

Remember that work zones are not only large construction projects possibly taking years to complete, but smaller, mobile operations such as mowing, pothole repair and litter pick ups.  Choose to make work zone safety your business at www.choosesafetyforlife.com.
