Drivers navigate Maryland’s first Diverging Diamond Interchange
Maryland’s first diverging diamond interchange opened to traffic at MD 295 and Arundel Mills Boulevard in Anne Arundel County in June 2012. The DDI provides a crucial link to the Maryland Live! Casino and Arundel Mills Mall and alleviates congestion on area roads. Drivers are advised to use extra caution while driving the diverging diamond interchange. It is different from most other interchanges with traffic driving on the left side of the road and then crossing at a signal. The diverging diamond interchange near Arundel Mills Mall was funded by the casino developer. The SHA is considering the use of additional diverging diamond interchanges in the future. |
