The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides strategic direction and coordination of information technology resources within MDOT SHA using a combination of in-house and outside resources. OIT ensures compatibility and interoperability of MDOT SHA IT systems, and does the following:
This division performs the front-end IT project request-and-prioritization process for submission to MDOT SHA’s IT Steering Committee. Using a combination of in-house and outside resources, this division coordinates the acquisition, development, implementation, and maintenance of all major business systems, ensuring that State, DoIT, and MDOT security, technology, project management, and coding standards are met. This division also coordinates the research, testing, and piloting of new technologies.
This division maintains, supports and enhances the IT infrastructure, using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) and related engineering applications. Employees in this division are also responsible for local and wide-area network management and support. The Infrastructure Division is also responsible for the procurement, distribution and support of desktop systems, as well as operational support of the servers, printers and plotters required for MDOT SHA’s engineering and business applications. This division supports all web-based services, including Internet and Intranet websites for MDOT SHA, MDOT TSO and other MDOT business units.
