Federal and recent state laws require that state agencies provide open access to various programs and services to the public, including those with Limited English Proficiency (LEP). To comply and provide our customers with equal access to critical transportation-related information in useable formats and environments, SHA has developed resources and implementation plans to provide services to our Limited English Proficient customers.
SHA directs all offices who offer assistance to the public to take reasonable steps to provide LEP individuals with meaningful access to their programs, activities, and services. The Employment and Program Equity Division within the Office of Equal Opportunity is responsible for providing SHA employees and divisions with technical assistance. This includes advising divisions of LEP requirements and its implementation, and assistance in developing individual division plans and mechanisms.
