MDOT State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is continuously striving to improve safety and mobility in work zones. We do this by developing policies, standards and guidelines; providing technical guidance, training, best practices and advice; and interpreting federal and state regulations and requirements related to work zone safety and mobility.

Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands

MDOT SHA reminds drivers that work zone safety is everyone’s business. This safety campaign issues a plea to stay alert and use caution when driving through or near work zones.

Processes and Guidelines for Work Zone Safety and Mobility

In response to FHWA’s Work Zone Safety and Mobility Rule (23 CFR Subpart J) and Temporary Traffic Control Devices Rule (23 CFR Subpart K), MDOT SHA has implemented several policy and guidance documents to provide information and guidance on requirements for personnel involved in the planning, designing, supervising, implementation, inspection, maintenance and review of transportation management plans for work zone traffic control:
