Obtain information on long-range Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) projects from the Regional and Intermodal Planning Division, which is part of MDOT SHA’s Office of Planning and Preliminary Engineering. Regional and Intermodal Planning staff for each region coordinate with county and municipal governments, and with Maryland's seven metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) to develop MDOT SHA’s portion of Maryland’s annual Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) and each metropolitan area’s Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).
In addition, staff help prepare the Highway Needs Inventory (HNI), MDOT SHA's long-range, financially-unconstrained planning document, which serves as a source of candidate projects for the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Consolidated Transportation Program (CTP).
