(May 2, 2014) – Next week, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin a safety and resurfacing project on MD 140 (Baltimore Boulevard) from west of MD 91 (Gamber Road) to west of Sandymount Road in Carroll County. This $3.4 million project will improve safety and ride quality along nearly two and a half miles of MD 140, which carries an average of about 40,000 vehicles per day.

Motorists will encounter single-lane closures Sunday through Thursday nights between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., beginning Sunday, May 4. In addition, single-lane closures will take place on weekends between 8 p.m. Fridays and 6 p.m. Sundays beginning Friday, May 9.  Motorists should be aware that there is also a project underway in the same area to rebabilitate the MD 140 Bridge over the Patapsco River at the Baltimore/Carroll County line.

As part of the project, crews will grind, patch and resurface the roadway; replace inlet grates and concrete encacement of damaged inlets; replace existing guardrail and traffic barrier end tratements to meet current standards; and install signaltraffic detectors, rumble strips and pavement markings.

SHA’s contractor is Richard F. Kline, Inc., of Frederick. SHA and the contractor urge drivers to plan for extra time when traveling this section of MD 140 and to drive with extra caution through the work zone. Weather permitting, the project will be complete by late fall.
