(May 2, 2014) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) advises motorists in Frederick County that resurfacing work will require a flagging operation over the next few weeks on MD 550 (Woodsboro Road) between Libertytown and Woodsboro.

Flagging will be in place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, and again Mondays through Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, until the work is complete. Signs, cones, barrels and flagpersons will direct motorists through the work zone. Motorists should use caution and allow for extra time. This section of MD 550 has an average daily traffic volume of about 3,000 vehicles. The work area also includes a work zone in which MD 550 has been reduced to a single lane, with a temporary traffic signal alternating traffic directions, for an ongoing bridge replacement project.

The resurfacing work will be completed by CJ Miller, LLC, of Hampstead, Md. as part of an areawide pavement maintenance contract. Citizens who have questions about operations on MD 550 or any other State highway in Frederick County may contact SHA’s District 7 Office at 301-624-8100 or toll-free at 1-800-635-5119.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
