Daytime Work Expected Monday-Thursday, April 11-14; Motorists Should Use Detour to Access MD 144/Town of Hancock

(April 7, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a project Monday, April 11, to repair an underground pipe on I-70 (Dwight Eisenhower Highway) in the Hancock area of Washington County.

Starting at 7 a.m. Monday, crews working on I-70 westbound will close Exit 3 MD 144 to Hancock to repair the pipe. They will work 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. until expected completion on Thursday, April 14. All work is weather permitting.

Motorists should expect signage and barrels when approaching the work zone. Crews will detour traffic to I-70 westbound to Exit 1B, US 522 south to MD 144 (Main Street). First Fruits Excavating Inc. of Ridgeley, W.Va., will perform the work.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.

Governor Larry Hogan has declared April as Work Zone Safety Month in Maryland. For more information on Work Zone Safety, visit roads.maryland.gov and click on the work zone safety banner. Also follow MDOT SHA on Twitter @MDSHA and on Facebook at facebook.com/MDOTSHA
