Motorists Should Expect Ramp Closure at Eastbound US 40 to Westbound Beaver Creek Road During Construction
(July 1, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin an intersection safety improvement project on eastbound US 40 at Beaver Creek Road in the Hagerstown area of Washington County next week that will necessitate the closure of the eastbound ramp of US 40 to westbound Beaver Creek Road.
Starting Wednesday, July 6, crews will work 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays for approximately two weeks to set up a new traffic pattern on eastbound US 40 near Beaver Creek Road. Motorists will be required to use the westbound US 40 entrance to access Beaver Creek Road.
Once the new traffic pattern is in place, crews will work 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays to complete the project, including removal of the existing concrete island and installation of a new mountable curb concrete island. The improvements are part of an approximately $397,000 project to enhance safety at various intersections in the county.
The closure of the eastbound ramp of US 40 to westbound Beaver Creek Road will be in effect throughout the project, which is expected to be complete by the end of July, weather permitting. Traffic barrels and signage will be used to navigate motorist through the work zone. C. William Hetzer, of Hagerstown, is performing the work.
