(April 2, 2021) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is improving the riding surface on the I-68 Westbound at I-70 Interchange ramp in Washington County. On Monday and Tuesday, crews will close the ramp onto I-68 Westbound at I-70 in Hancock to perform the road surface improvement project.  The overnight work is expected to be complete by Wednesday morning at 5 a.m., weather permitting.

Traffic barriers will be used to close the ramp onto I-68 Westbound from 8 p.m. each night of the project until 5 a.m. the next morning. Detour and directional signs will be in place to assist drivers through the detour, and a message board will notify drivers of the detour and closure.

A 7-mile detour will be in place to navigate motorists to I-68 Westbound. Motorists will remain on I-70 West to Warfordsburg, Pennsylvania, then turn around and access I-68 West from I-70 East.  MDOT SHA contractor Concrete General, Inc. based in Gaithersburg, Maryland is performing the work.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers.  Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes.  Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
