Daytime Work Expected to Last Four Days; Includes Repairing and Protecting Pavement Surface

(September 16, 2021) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a road preservation project on US 40 Alternate (Old National Pike) in the Middletown area of Frederick County on Monday, September 20. Crews will seal cracks in the road surface to help protect the pavement from water damage and to extend its service life. The work is expected to be completed in four days, weather permitting.

Beginning at 8 a.m., crews will work on US 40 Alternate (Old National Pike) between the area just west of Dahlgren Road and Mount Tabor Road, a span of nearly three miles. Work will take place 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

MDOT SHA’s contractor, Remac Inc. will use a flagging operation along with signs, cones and barrels to alert motorists and guide them through the work zone. There will also truck-mounted safety equipment in place in the work zone to protect crews and motorists.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
