Motorists Should Expect Overnight Single-Lane Closures

(May 4, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin overnight work Monday, May 9, on a $2.3 million project to clean and paint six bridges on US 50 and I-95/I-495 in Prince George’s County.

The work will begin 8 p.m. Monday, and will continue 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday nights through Friday mornings, through late fall 2022.

Motorists can expect single-lane closures while the work is underway. MDOT SHA will maintain one lane open to traffic throughout the project’s duration.

The bridges undergoing work are:

  • MD 459 over US 50 (John Hanson Highway);
  • I-95 northbound over I-495 (Capital Beltway), Outer Loop;
  • I-95 ramp over I-495 (Capital Beltway), Inner Loop, to Paint Branch, located just past MD 650 and Oakview Drive;
  • Cherry Hill Road over I-95 northbound ramp at I-495 (Capital Beltway), Outer Loop;
  • US 1 (Baltimore Avenue) over I-495 (Capital Beltway); and
  • US 50 westbound ramp over MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway).

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
