(June 7, 2023) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will permanently close the US 40 (Pulaski Highway) median crossover at Jackson Station Road and Winch Road. The project, originally scheduled for Wednesday, June 14, has been postponed.

Crews from the State Highway Administration’s Elkton shop will work overnight, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. to install flex posts, eliminating all traffic movements through the median. US 40 motorists wishing to turn left onto Jackson Station Road or Winch Road can make a U-turn at any of several nearby US 40 median crossovers. Right turns to and from US 40 will not be affected by this change.

This restriction will address potential conflicts created when multiple vehicles are in the median at the same time. Prior efforts to reduce potential conflicts included pavement markings and signage improvements.

The State Highway Administration ask all motorists to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits and slow down in construction zones. Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
