8/5/2011Late-Night 15-Minute Road Closures on MD 26 (Liberty Road) at I-695 Interchange August 8-11
SHA and its contractor, Concrete General, Inc. of Gaithersburg, will install structural steel beams for the new I-695 bridge over MD 26 (Liberty Road) during the week of August 8.  There will be intermittent traffic stoppages on Liberty Road and ramp detours on I-695 late at night Monday - Thursday nights, August 8-11.
Beginning Monday night, August 8, crews will close one lane in each direction along Liberty Road between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next morning. After 11 p.m. each night, crews and police may stop all traffic in both directions on Liberty Road for up to 15 minutes at a time to allow crews to safely move steel beams into place over Liberty Road.
During this operation, SHA will close the right lane along northbound I-695 (Inner Loop) and SHA will close and detour the ramps from northbound I-695 at Exit 18 A and B to eastbound and westbound Liberty Road between 10:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next morning.
All motorists going from northbound I-695 to Exit 18 will be detoured past Exit 18 and Exit 19, I-795 (Northwest Expressway) to Exit 20, MD 140 (Reisterstown Road).  Motorists will take Exit 20, go through the I-695/MD 140 interchange, and go onto southbound I-695 to return to Exit 18.
Weather permitting, the steel beam placement will be complete 5 a.m. Friday morning, August 12.  In case of inclement weather, the work will take place on the next possible weeknight (Sunday through Thursday).  The project began spring 2010 and is currently slated for completion fall 2012.
Citizens with questions about the bridge project may contact SHA’s project field office at 410-277-4318, SHA’s District 4 Office toll-free at 1-866-998-0367 or by email at
