4/16/2012SHA Begins Resurfacing Project on I-795 in Baltimore County
Motorists Advised to Plan for Extra Travel on I-795 Time; Single and Double Lane Closures Expected; Motorists Should Consider Reisterstown Road as Alternate Route
(April 16, 2012) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is beginning two projects to repair concrete pavement on I-795 (Northwest Expressway) between I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) and Owings Mills Boulevard (MD 940).  Weather permitting the $9.2 million investment will be complete fall 2013.
In addition to concrete repair, SHA will upgrade traffic barriers, repair storm drain systems, resurface ramps at the Owings Mills Boulevard interchange and install new pavement markings.
During road work, there may be single lane closures along both directions of I-795 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, and single and double lane closures between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., Sunday – Thursday.
Beginning Friday, April 20, weekend single lane closures will occur along I-795 between 7 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday.  Double lane closures may take place overnight on weekends between 11 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday and again between midnight Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.  Interstate ramps may also be closed and detoured weeknights between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next morning, Sunday through Thursday, and on weekends between 7 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday.
There will also be four weekends this summer when there will be a double-lane closure along both northbound I-795 between 10 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday, so crews may perform concrete work in the center lanes of the expressway.   The weekend double lane closures may take place on any four weekends between June 15 and August 20, excluding holidays.  SHA will announce the weekend double lane closures in advance.
There will be no construction-related lane closures on I-795 this summer during the Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day holidays.
SHA’s contractor is Concrete General, Inc. of Gaithersburg. SHA and the contractor appreciate your patience during the interstate resurfacing and safety improvement projects.  Motorist should consider alternative routes such as MD 140 (Reisterstown Road).
