(June 8, 2018) – Beginning Saturday morning, MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) at Randolph Road will be restricted to one lane in each direction to allow Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) crews to perform asphalt and pavement marking work. This work is part of the $39.6 million interchange construction project on MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) at Randolph Road in Silver Spring, Montgomery County. All traffic lanes will reopen no later than 6 p.m.

Starting at 6 a.m. Saturday, crews will restrict traffic to one lane in both directions on MD 97. Additionally, ramp access from Livingston Street to eastbound Randolph Avenue will be closed and detoured through the eastbound Randolph Road tunnel beneath Georgia Avenue. Traffic on westbound Randolph Road will not be permitted to make left turns onto southbound MD 97. All motorists should follow police direction and the signed detour routes for the work this weekend.

During the work, motorists should add extra commute time and seek alternate routes such as MD 185 (Connecticut Avenue) or MD 586 (Veirs Mill Road). The interchange project work should be in its final configuration by the end of summer.

While MDOT SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
