Roads We Maintain
The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) owns and maintains all non-toll, numbered roads - such as I-495 (the Capital Beltway), MD 355 (Rockville Pike) and US 40 (Baltimore National Pike) - in Maryland's 23 counties.
- Visit Know Your Roads to see which governmental body maintains a road.
- Roads without a number are maintained by the county or municipality.
- Toll roads (including I-95, the Bay Bridge and the Fort McHenry Tunnel) are owned and maintained by the
Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA).

In Baltimore City, local roads, interstates and numbered routes are maintained by the Baltimore City Department of Transportation (Toll roads I-95, I-395 and I-895, within the city are maintained by the Maryland Transportation Authority).
