(July 6, 2012) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is closing the left lane of southbound I-795 (Northwest Expressway) from the Owings Mills Boulevard (MD 940) interchange to I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) for concrete resurfacing work this weekend.  The left lane (one of three lanes) will be closed between 7 p.m. Friday, July 6 and 5 a.m. Monday, July 9 to allow for pouring and setting new concrete pavement along southbound I-795.

The weekend work is part of SHA's ongoing project to repair concrete pavement on I-795 between I-695 and Owings Mills Boulevard. Weather permitting, the work will be complete fall 2013.  In addition to concrete repair, SHA is upgrading traffic barriers, repairing storm drain systems, resurfacing ramps at the Owings Mills Boulevard interchange and installing new pavement markings.

Weekday single lane closures and ramp lane shifts along both directions of I-795 are likely between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday and single and double lane closures between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., Sunday – Thursday. Weekend single lane closures may occur along I-795 between 7 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday. Double lane closures may take place overnight on weekends between 11 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday and again between midnight Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday. Interchange ramps may also be closed and detoured weeknights between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next morning, Sunday through Thursday, and on weekends between 7 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday.   SHA encourages motorists to use Reisterstown Road as an alternate route during construction.

Next weekend, July 13-16, SHA will close two lanes of southbound I-795 between Owings Mills Boulevard and I-695.  Work will begin at 10 p.m. Friday, July 13 with all lane open by Monday, July 16 at 5 a.m.  The rain date for this project is the weekend of July 20.

There will be no construction-related lane closures on I-795 this summer during the Labor Day holiday weekend.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely.   Safer driving. Safer work zones. For everyone!
