(November 15, 2012) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) advises motorists in Washington County that crews will close the MD 68 bridge over Conococheague Creek this Saturday, November 17, and Sunday, November 18, between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day, to remove debris that accumulated under the bridge during Hurricane Sandy.

MD 68 (Clear Spring Road) will be closed to through traffic between US 11 (Potomac Street in Williamsport) and Pinesburg Road. Access beyond the closure on each side of the bridge will be restricted to those who reside there; the bridge itself will be blocked by a crane. Motorists should follow the posted detour, which will use US 11, MD 63 (Greencastle Pike), Kemps Mill Road, and Pinesburg Road (see attached map).

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
