WHAT:

The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is hosting an informational meeting this week about two safety improvement projects along the MD 4 (Pennsylvania Avenue) corridor in Forestville, Prince George’s County.  One project includes a new mid-block crossing signal along MD 4 between Donnell Drive and Walters Lane. This improvement is located within the overall pedestrian safety and enhancement project from Forestville Road to MD 458 (Silver Hill Road).
Preliminary work for the mid-block crossing project began earlier this month. The pedestrian safety and enhancement project is in the design phase and is not currently funded for construction.

As part of the open house, SHA project team members will be available for questions about both projects. The mid-block crossing project includes a new signal midway between Donnell Drive and Walters Lane, advanced warning lights and improved signage on each approach to the crossing alerting motorists and pedestrians of the new signal, marked crosswalks, new sidewalk landings and guardrail.

The pedestrian safety and enhancement project proposes construction of new curb and gutter, sidewalk ramps and crosswalks, an 8-foot wide hiker/biker trail, narrowing of travel lanes, shoulder widths and pavement widths and modifications to traffic signals and pedestrian countdown signals.

SHA representatives will make a formal presentation beginning at 6:15 p.m. Meeting participants may talk with SHA representatives at display stations and provide comments about the projects. Participants may walk through displays at any time before or after the formal presentation.
