(April 1, 2013) – Beginning Tuesday night, April 2 the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will resurface the MD 4 (Patuxent Beach Road) southern approach to the Governor Thomas Johnson Bridge in St. Mary’s County.  SHA expects to complete all work within a week, weather permitting.

Work includes milling, resurfacing and restriping.  Crews will work overnights from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.  A single lane closure and flagging operation will be in place to guide motorists safely through the work zone.

This project is funded under a $6.1 million multi-project “areawide” resurfacing contract awarded to Bardon/Aggregate Industries of Greenbelt.  The contract also includes resurfacing  more than two miles of MD 246 (Great Mills Road) from MD 5 to St. Mary’s Square. This work started in March and should be completed by the end of April.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!

For the latest travel conditions call 511 or log onto www.MD511.org for traffic information.  Follow SHA on Twitter @MDSHA and like our Facebook page www.facebook.com/MarylandStateHighwayAdministration.
