(April 10, 2013) – Beginning Thursday, April 11 the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will resurface more than two miles of northbound US 301 (Crain Highway). The work will take place from Fairgrounds Road to MD 6 (Charles Street) in Charles County.  With weather permitting, the work is expected to last up to three weeks.

Work includes milling, resurfacing and restriping the roadway.  Crews are permitted to close a single lane Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Access to business entrances and side streets will be maintained during the work.  Motorists traveling through the work zone are urged to reduce speed and be alert for vehicles entering and exiting the highway.  An average of 24,000 vehicles travel this section of US 301 each day so drivers are encouraged to plan for extra travel time.

This project is funded under a $5 million “areawide” resurfacing contract awarded to Bardon/Aggregate Industries of Greenbelt.  While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
