(UPDATE (April 22, 2013) – The start date of this project has changed. The work will begin on Wednesday, April 24, 2013.)

(April 18, 2013) - The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) advises motorists to expect lane closures on MD 194 (Frederick Street/York Street) in Taneytown starting next week. Work crews will mill, patch and resurface the one mile of MD 194 within the city limits. The project will begin Monday, April 22, and will be complete in late May, weather permitting.

The paving follows the city’s recent replacement of a waterline under MD 194 as well as other “streetscape” improvements completed in Taneytown over the past few years including curb, sidewalk, drainage, lighting and landscaping improvements. When the paving is complete, the daily average of about 5,000 drivers on MD 194 will travel on a smoother, safer pavement surface with fresh, bright lines.

Lane closures will occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.  SHA will use flaggers, signs, cones and barrels to guide motorists through the work zone.

SHA’s contractor for the paving is CJ Miller LLC of Hampstead. Anyone with questions about traffic operations on MD 194 or other State numbered routes in Carroll County may contact SHA’s District 7 office at 301-624-8100 or toll-free at 800-635-5119, or by email at SHADistrict7@sha.state.md.us.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
