(May 8, 2013) – The State Highway Administration (SHA) is performing routine maintenance on the MD 213 Chester River Drawbridge twice this month on Friday, May 10 and Wednesday, May 22.  The work will occur on both days from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The brief closures of the bridge will last no longer than needed for an average vessel to pass through open the swing span.

SHA’s contractor, Covington Machine and Welding, Inc. of Annapolis, will grease the bridge locks, open and close the bridge to test the traffic gates; check all traffic and navigational lights; and check the hydraulic oil levels for bridge motors.

If inclement weather prevents the maintenance work as originally scheduled, it will be conducted the next business day.  Anyone with questions about the project may contact the SHA District 2 Office at 1-800-637-9740.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely.  Safer driving. Safer work zones. For everyone!
