(June 10, 2013) – The State Highway Administration (SHA) begins paving eight miles of MD 18 (Love Point Road/Main Street) in Queen Anne’s County starting Wednesday, June 12.  The overlay project will be complete by June 30.

Crews will start the resurfacing project on MD 18 in Love Point at the northern tip of Kent Island and continue eastbound for six miles to Postal Road, west of the Kent Narrows Bridge.  SHA will also resurface Main Street from the Kent Narrows Bridge to Nesbit Road in Grasonville.  SHA’s contractor for the $520,000 project is David A. Bramble, Inc. of Chestertown.

During construction, motorists will encounter single lane closures Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.  The contractor will use variable message boards, temporary signs, flaggers, cones and barrels to guide motorists through the work zone. Motorists should plan extra commute time during the resurfacing project.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely.   Saver driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone!
