(July 19, 2013) – Westminster drivers in Carroll County will soon encounter construction along MD 32 between Bennett Avenue (just past the Carroll Hospital Center) and Short Lane Road in Westminster.  Starting next week, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will resurface (grind and overlay) nearly three miles of roadway.  SHA resurfaced this section in 1999 and the new pavement will extend the overall service life of the roadway.

Crews will work at night Sunday through Thursday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., and traffic will be directed using a flagging operation.  Cones, barrels and temporary traffic signs will also guide motorists through the work zone. More than 17,000 drivers travel this section of MD 32 each day.  All work should be complete by late summer.

“Using a nighttime flagging operation allows SHA to complete this paving work without a major disruption to traffic,” stated SHA Administrator Melinda B. Peters.  “Drivers should remain alert for workers and equipment when driving along MD 32.”

The $1.1 million project is part of an area-wide safety and resurfacing contract issued to C.J. Miller, LLC of Hampstead.  Drivers are reminded to remain alert for work crews, obey flagpersons and drive at the appropriate speed when traveling through the work zone.
