(July 30, 2013) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) advises motorists in Allegany County that the flashing traffic signal on US 40 Alternate (National Highway) at Parkside Boulevard will be converted to full-color operation starting this Wednesday morning, July 31.

The signal currently operates in full-color mode only during school arrival and dismissal times at nearby Parkside Elementary School. Starting Wednesday, it will operate in full-color mode from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week, and will operate in flash mode at night.

“This change will improve safety at the intersection by making the full-color operation consistent throughout the day,” SHA District 6 Engineer Anthony Crawford said. “We ask that everyone – drivers and pedestrians – use extra caution in the area as the community adjusts to the new traffic pattern.”

Anyone with questions about traffic operations on US 40 Alternate or other State numbered routes in Allegany County may contact SHA’s District 6 Office at 301-729-8400 or toll-free at 800-760-7138.
