(August 6, 2013) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is advising motorists to use alternate routes for northbound US 15 (Catoctin Mountain Highway) in the vicinity of Motter Avenue due to an emergency water main repair.  The right lane and right shoulder will remain closed until at least Tuesday evening. Although the left lane remains open, major congestion is likely to occur on northbound US 15.  Southbound US 15 lanes are not affected by the repair and have all lanes open.

Crews are performing emergency water main repair on northbound US 15 between Motter Avenue and MD 26 (Liberty Road).  SHA is advising that motorists traveling westbound I-70 to use exit #56 - MD 144 (Patrick Street) to access northbound Monocacy Boulevard.  Motorists should then proceed to westbound MD 26 to northbound US 15. This alternate route will place motorists north of the repair.

Motorists on northbound I-270 are encouraged to use eastbound I-70 to exit #54-East Street and proceed north to North Market Street.  Drivers should continue to a left turn onto Routzahns Way to westbound MD 26 and then to northbound US 15.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
