(August 20, 2013) – The State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin deck repairs on the MD 213 Chester River Drawbridge on Tuesday, August 27.  The patching of the concrete deck work should be completed by Thursday, August 29, weather dependent.

During the three days of bridge deck repairs motorists should expect single lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Work crews will direct motorists across the bridge using signs, cones and a flagging operation.  SHA awarded the $6,000 contract for the bridge repairs to Allied Contractors, Inc., of Baltimore.

If inclement weather prevents the repair work as originally scheduled, it will start or be continued the next business day.  No repair work will be conducted on Saturday or Sunday.

SHA will also perform routine maintenance on the Chester River Drawbridge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, but the work will have no additional impact on motorists crossing the bridge. The routine maintenance includes greasing the bridge locks, checking all hydraulic oil levels for bridge motors and the operation of navigational lights. The maintenance work will be done simultaneously in conjunction with the bridge deck repairs, but conclude an hour earlier.

Anyone with questions about the project may contact the SHA District 2 Office at 1-800-637-9740.

As crews strive to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
