(October 9, 2013) – Weather permitting, construction work will result in closing the right lane along eastbound and westbound Liberty Road (MD 26) in Lochearn between 5 a.m. Sunday, October 13 and 5 a.m. Monday, October 14.

The 24-hour closures between Fairview Road and St. Luke’s Lane will allow the State Highway Administration (SHA) to safely pour and cure concrete bus stop pads for Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) bus stops on Liberty Road. The pads reinforce the asphalt pavement to carry the weight of heavy buses stopping frequently on Liberty Road.

During the work, the left lane of each direction along Liberty Road and all side street and driveway entrances will remain open Sunday; however, SHA urges motorists and MTA bus riders to plan ahead for extra travel time along Liberty Road between the Baltimore City/County line and I-695.

SHA will close four MTA bus stops on Liberty Road near the following intersections:

• Eastbound Liberty Road at Fairview Road, Sedgemoor Road, and St. Luke’s Lane.   Bus passengers may board at the next stops east along eastbound Liberty Road.
•  Westbound Liberty Road at Essex Road.  Bus passengers may board at the next stop along westbound Liberty Road.

In case of inclement weather on Sunday, the weekend right lane closure will take place the next possible Sunday (October 20 or 27).

SHA will use construction barrels, construction cones, and flashing arrow boards to guide motorists through the highway work zone. As crews work to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone!

Citizens with questions or concerns about the construction work along Liberty Road may contact SHA’s District 4 Office – Construction Division at 410-229-2420, toll free at 1-866-998-0367, or by email: shadistrict4@sha.state.md.us.
