(October 23, 2013) – Capital Beltway drivers should plan ahead for nighttime roadwork next week that will likely cause delays.  On Monday night, October 28 beginning 9 p.m., the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will install a structural steel beam on the Forestville Road Bridge over the I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) in Morningside, Prince George’s County. Weather permitting; the work should be complete by 5 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29.

The work is part of a $700,000 bridge repair project and involves positioning cranes to hoist the steel, lifting the girder into place and tightening the beam.  Click here for information on the overall project.

During the work, motorists should expect the following lane closures:

• Ramp for exit 9 on the inner loop of I-95/I-495 (MD 337, Allentown Road via Forestville Road) between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next day and;
• All lanes of traffic on the outer loop of I-95/I-495, intermittently between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next day for intervals of up to 15 minutes.

To access MD 337 during the overnight exit 9 detour, motorists should use the preceding exit, 11B (MD 4, Pennsylvania Avenue), travel north on MD 4, make a left onto Forestville Road and travel approximately one mile to MD 337.

As crews work to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone!
