(November 15, 2013) On Sunday night, November 17, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily shift traffic on the ramp from eastbound MD 198 (Sandy Spring Road) to southbound I-95 to a newly constructed ramp.  Motorists travelling from both east and westbound MD 198 onto southbound I-95 will now merge together prior to entering southbound I-95. The through travel lanes along southbound I-95 will not be affected. This work is part of the ICC Contract D/E project.

The shift of the ramp is necessary to accommodate construction of the new collector-distributor lanes being built as part of the project. Portable variable message signs are in place to alert motorists of the new traffic pattern. Temporary construction signs will also be used to alert motorists to the new traffic pattern. This section of the ICC between I-95 and US 1 is expected to open to traffic spring 2014, weather permitting.

Motorists are reminded to reduce speeds and be attentive as they drive through the work zone. For more information about the project, please call the ICC Community Outreach staff at 1-866-462-0020.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
