(November 27, 2013) -- On Monday night, December 2, into Tuesday morning, December 3, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will shift traffic on the northbound I-95 ramp to eastbound MD 198 to a new exit ramp approximately 900 feet in advance of the existing ramp.  Through travel lanes along northbound I-95 will not be affected.

New Traffic Pattern on I-95 in Laurel

Beginning at 8 p.m. Monday night, the right lane on northbound I-95, between the ICC and MD 198 will be closed, with double lane closures beginning at 11 p.m.  From midnight until 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, complete 15-minute closures of northbound I-95 are permitted to remove overhead signs and open the new ramp. Once in place, motorists along northbound I-95 will exit onto eastbound MD 198 approximately 900 feet prior to the current ramp.

Motorists should get in the far right lane adjacent to the concrete barriers and prepare early to exit northbound I-95 to eastbound MD 198.   This temporary alignment will be in place until spring 2014, when construction of the new collector-distributor lanes will be complete. During the lane closures and temporary total closures, motorists should expect delays.

Motorists are reminded to reduce speeds and stay alert as they drive through the work zone. For more information about the project, please call the ICC Community Outreach staff at 1-866-462-0020.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
