(January 8, 2014) – Beginning at 6 a.m., Sunday, January 12, Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) and the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will close a lane on eastbound and westbound US 50 (John Hanson Highway) bridge over Garden City Drive in New Carrollton, Prince George’s County. The lane closures are necessary for BGE contractors to relocate utility poles and overhead power lines.

The Maryland State Police will assist with the closures and drivers should remain alert. Weather permitting, all work should be complete no later than 10 a.m.

SHA advises motorists traveling in the vicinity of US 50 in New Carrollton to drive with caution, anticipate delays and plan ahead for extra travel time during the work on Sunday. Once this work is complete, construction crews will schedule repairs to the highway shoulder on the westbound bridge.

For more information about the BGE utility pole relocation project, citizens may contact BGE directly by phone at 1-800-685-0123.

As crews work to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone!
