(January 31, 2014) – MD 108 (Ashton Road/Clarksville Pike) will be reduced to a single lane at the Howard-Montgomery county line east of Olney beginning at 8 p.m. tonight for emergency repairs to the bridge over the Patuxent River. A flagging operation will remain in place throughout the weekend until the repairs are complete.

The lane reduction will allow crews to make repairs to the concrete bridge wall that encloses the area between the roadway and the arch of the bridge. SHA has been aware of issues with this wall leaning and had been monitoring the condition since last fall while plans for a repair could be engineered. Upon beginning construction today, SHA found the condition had significantly worsened, likely due to the recent snow and severe weather, and determined that, while the bridge remains safe for traffic, the work should be expedited.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
