(April 4, 2014)  – Motorists can expect a new traffic pattern in Laurel beginning Saturday, April 5 at 8 a.m. (weather permitting) as part of the I-95 / Contee Road interchange project.

Once it opens to traffic, drivers will use Old Gunpowder Road to reach points north, just past the Gunpowder Golf Course to the newly built section of Virginia Manor and Contee roads. The existing traffic pattern for Van Dusen Road will be permanently closed from west of I-95 to the 6100 block of Van Dusen Road.

Residents are reminded that the work can be noisy at times, and should remain alert for work crews in the area.  The new connection will allow drivers to use the new bridge, crossing over I-95 toward Laurel Regional Hospital and Virginia Manor Road. Drivers are reminded to remain alert for work crews and traffic signs in the area.

Once complete later this year, the new $35.5 million interchange will provide access from I-95 to the Burtonsville and Laurel areas via Contee Road, and will extend to Virginia Manor Road to the east and Old Gunpowder Road to the west.
