(April 24, 2014) – Beginning Monday, April 28, CSX Transportation will repair its railroad crossing at MD 851 (Main Street) in Sykesville near the Howard-Carroll County line, requiring a temporary closure of MD 851 at the railroad crossing from April 28 through May 2.

The State Highway Administration (SHA) coordinated with CSX to establish a signed detour route during the closure. The detour will direct traffic around the closure using MD 32 (Sykesville Road/Washington Road), College Avenue and Sandosky Road. Residents and local businesses will have access to their properties during the closure.

Portable electronic message signs are in the area to alert drivers to the upcoming work. Cones and barrels will also alert motorists to the work zone. Travelers are advised to plan for extra time during this temporary closure. SHA also encourages residents to support area businesses that will be open during the closure. Those who have questions about the work may call 1-877-TELL-CSX (877-835-5279).
