(May 19, 2014) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) advises motorists that I-68 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction on Tuesday, May 20, at the bridges over Kelly Boulevard and Patterson Avenue in Cumberland.

The lane closures will begin at 5 a.m. and will allow crews to shift traffic into a new configuration as part of an ongoing project to rehabilitate the two I-68 bridges as the project enters its third and final construction phase.

Motorists traveling on I-68 should consider alternate routes tomorrow or allow extra time, use caution, and be prepared for new traffic patterns.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
