(June 3, 2014) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) has begun two safety-enhancement projects on MD 10 (Arundel Expressway) near I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) in northeastern Anne Arundel County.  Resurfacing of the northbound lanes of MD 10 between MD 710 (Ordnance Road) and I-695 is underway and expected to take about two weeks, weather permitting.  This project includes milling, patching and resurfacing to improve traction and installation of new retro-reflective pavement markings to improve visibility.  Motorists should expect weekday single lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  This work is being performed under a $7 million multi-location “areawide” contract awarded to Reliable Contracting of Millersville.

Later this month, crews will begin a guardrail replacement project that covers MD 10 from MD 177 (Mountain Road) to I-695, a total of nearly five miles.  Work includes installation of new shoulder and median guardrail to current federal standards, landscaping and tree planting.    Work hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the project completion scheduled for fall..  SHA awarded a $1 million contract for this work to L.S. Lee of York, PA.

MD 10 is a controlled-access expressway that parallels the busy MD 2 commercial corridor and provides a key commuter link between Pasadena and Baltimore.  Nearly 50,000 vehicles travel MD 10 each day.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
