(June 18, 2014) – The northbound I-270 (exit 31B) ramp to southbound MD 85 (Buckeystown Pike) in Frederick County will close tonight at 10 p.m. as part of a Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) project. It will reopen by 6 a.m. Thursday, June 19.

During the closure, a detour will direct motorists to use eastbound I-70, to reach exit 54 for MD 85. Variable message signs were placed earlier this week to advise motorists of the upcoming ramp closure.

The overnight ramp closure is one of several that will be required this summer as part of a $3.5 million safety and resurfacing project underway on northbound I-270 from north of MD 80 in Urbana to north of I-70 in Frederick.

During tonight’s ramp closure, crews will be upgrading guardrail. Later in the project, the ramps to MD 85 will be closed again for milling and for paving. SHA’s contractor for the project is Francis O. Day Co., Inc, of Rockville. Weather permitting, the project will be complete late summer.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
