(July 2, 2014) – The State Highway Administration (SHA) will repair and resurface pavement on MD 131 (Seminary Avenue) between MD 45 (York Road) and MD 25 (Falls Road) in the Lutherville area of Baltimore County.  The $2 million project will improve safety and ride quality along a heavily congestion three mile section of Seminary Avenue

The resurfacing project also includes reconstructing sidewalk ramps to meet Americans With Disabilities Act standards; cleaning and repairing storm drain inlets; replacing sections of curb and gutter where needed; and repairing sections of eroded slopes along the highway.

Between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. crews will use a flagging operation to alternate traffic on the two-lane road, creating a safe work zone to repair and resurface the pavement.  Overnight lane closures, lane shifts and flagging operations may take place Sunday through Thursday nights between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next morning.

SHA and the contractor, Gray and Son, Inc. of Timonium, advise drivers to plan for extra travel time when traveling on Seminary Avenue and to drive with caution in the highway construction work zone. If weather permits, the entire project will be complete in the spring of 2015.

Citizens who have questions about highway construction on MD 131 or any other State highway in Baltimore or Harford counties may contact SHA’s District 4 Office – Construction Division in Hunt Valley at 410-229-2420, toll-free at 1-866-998-0367 or by e-mail: shadistrict4@sha.state.md.us.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely.  Drivers, passengers as well as workers are at risk. Safer driving. Safer work zones. For everyone!
