(August 7, 2014)  - Beginning Monday night, August 11, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will upgrade the 80 light poles and fixtures on the MD 450 (King George Street) bridge over Severn River (Naval Academy Bridge) in Annapolis.  Work includes replacing poles and wiring and installing new decorative, energy-efficient LED lighting.

The Naval Academy Bridge features sidewalks and bike lanes in both directions.  Crews will work on one side of the bridge at a time, closing one sidewalk and bicycle lane.  Signs will be in place to help guide pedestrians and cyclists through the work zone.  Work hours are Sunday through Thursday nights, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.  This work will be completed this fall.   SHA will maintain bridge lighting throughout construction.

SHA awarded a $350,000 contract to Midasco of Elkridge.  An average of 17,000 vehicles cross this bridge each day. Those who have questions about the project may contact the SHA District 5 Office at 1-800-331-5603.
