(August 18, 2014) – Following last week’s record setting rains, a section of the right shoulder under southbound MD 2 (Ritchie Highway) over a tributary to Lake Waterford (prior to MD 10) has eroded and repairs are underway. Crews have closed the right lane and right shoulder to make repairs. The closure could last through mid-week so motorists should plan on extra travel time on MD 2 through Pasadena.

SHA engineers inspected the concrete structure along MD 2 at Lake Waterford tributary and determined that soil under the bridge abutments washed out. Beginning this evening, crews will grout the concrete structure, backfill with stone and resurface under the right lane and shoulder.

Approximately 24,000 motorists travel on MD 2 in this location each day. Drivers may consider MD 10 to southbound Ritchie Highway to stay south of the repair location.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones; each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
