(September 18, 2014) – Beginning 8 p.m. Friday, September 19, and over the next four weekends, crews will close two lanes of eastbound Intercounty Connector (ICC)/MD 200 between US 29 (Columbia Pike) and I-95. One through lane will remain open to traffic and all lanes will re-open by 5 a.m. Monday morning of each weekend.  The closures allow crews to repair the pavement in this section of the highway.

The ramp from Briggs Chaney Road to eastbound MD 200 will also be closed to traffic during the weekend repair work as needed. Motorists who normally access eastbound MD 200 from Briggs Chaney Road should follow the posted detour, which is west on Briggs Chaney Road to southbound US 29 and then to eastbound MD 200.  Portable message signs will be used to advise motorist about the ramp closure and guide motorists through the work zone.

The work and continuous double lane closures are necessary to improve the durability of the roadway. After observing depressions on the eastbound lanes of the ICC, the State Highway Administration and the Maryland Transportation Authority determined there is an underlying moisture issue below the roadway. The construction contractor for the ICC will remove and replace the underlying material and repave the area at no additional cost to the State.
