(October 17, 2014) - On Sunday night, October 19, the State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close the ramp from eastbound MD 198 (Sandy Spring Road) to southbound I-95 to shift traffic onto a newly constructed permanent ramp, weather permitting.  Motorists travelling from westbound MD 198 onto southbound I-95 will continue to merge onto southbound I-95 at its current location. The through lanes along southbound I-95 will not be affected. This work is part of the ICC Contract D/E project.

Beginning at 11 p.m. traffic destined for the ramp from eastbound MD 198 to southbound I-95 will be detoured to northbound I-95 to MD 216 (Scaggsville Road) to southbound I-95. Portable variable message signs will alert motorists of the closures and detour. The new ramp will open to motorists by 5 a.m. on Monday, October 20. The new ramp will now take motorists from eastbound MD 198 to the southbound collector-distributor lanes and will merge with southbound I-95 south of the ICC interchange.

Motorists are reminded to reduce speeds and be attentive as they drive through the work zone. For more information about the project, please call the ICC Community Outreach staff at 1-866-462-0020. For real-time traffic information, log onto www.md511.org.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone!
